New Kuta Golf Club

Holes 18 | Par 72 | Length 6247 m / 6832 y | Type Links-style | Architect GolfPlan

Crowned Best New International Course by Links Magazine shortly after opening in 2007, New Kuta Golf Club’s reputation has only grown, and its recent hosting of the Indonesian Open cemented its status as the latest in a long line of quality Indonesian golf courses.

Running along the cliffs at the picturesque southern tip of Bali, this is a course with a distinct links flavour, despite not being at sea level – the bumpy fairways are only sparsely populated with trees, and bracing sea breezes make the bump and run a better bet than attempting to play target golf.

Of the well-tended Bermuda greens, the most memorable is the tiered, sloping playing surface on the par-3 6th. This is one of the few places where target golf is your only option, given that the green is surrounded by sand. The word bunker doesn’t really do it justice. This challenge is followed by a very long dog-leg par-4, where a sizeable drive bisecting the fairway bunkers is required to give you a shot at reaching the well-protected elevated green in regulation.

The most memorable stretch of the back nine is holes 14 to 16, which run along the cliffs overlooking the beach. Bracing winds mean you often have to flirt with danger and send your ball out over the ocean and trust the breeze to bring the ball back to safety. The green of the 14th sits right on the cliff edge, beyond a pot bunker that ensures that selecting the correct club is essential if you want to avoid dropping shots. The narrow landing zone on the par-4 16th makes a successful tee shot a tough ask, but pretty much a requirement if you want to reach the green in two. Laying up is no easy task either, given the fact that the fairway tapers dramatically the closer you get to the green.

By the time you have successfully (or otherwise) negotiated the last, you’ll certainly deserve a drink, meal or massage in the large clubhouse that offers a great view of fellow players struggling with the contours of the 9th and 18th greens, although the best view is found at the lookout tower next door, the perfect place to watch the sunset and end another great day on your Bali golf holiday.

Very pleasant and scenic course.

Interesting course, some ofthe greens a bit patchy but the fairways and bunkers were in great condition. The caddies were very helpful and friendly. The food and drinks after round were excellent.

Course ok but not for the price charged. Greens need plenty of work as a number of them were showing signs of rot and were very patchy.

Arrived early for a 12.30 tee time. Had to wait over an hour due to unavailability of cart/caddies- finally tees off at 1.45, couldn’t finish round due to bad light- unacceptable!!

New Kuta Golf Club

Very slow game on a mediocre and overpriced golf course

Saw the surprisingly positive reviews for this course for this course and initially booked directly until I realised that it is cheaper to book through golfsavers which should have given me a hint how greedy they are. Well the two of us arrived at the club and were told to wait at hole 5 for another couple to join us. So we sorted this Friday afternoon round halfway through the first 9 and the first few holes were ok even though the greens were in quite poor condition. At the end of the first 9 the other couple stopped and we found ourselves behind two flights of kids and had to wait for over 20 min to start the second 9. From there on the pace of play was ridiculously slow and we had to wait at least 10 min on every single hole. We called the marshal and all she had to say was that it was busy. She also didn’t have any excuse for the poor condition of the greens which were plastered with pitch marks, rough spots, wet and dry areas and just awful for a course that charges championship rates. In the end it dragged on for over 5 hours and it felt like the worst round of golf I played in a decade. All they are interested in is to charge as much as they can for as many slots as possible with as little service as they can get away with. I hope that people will realize this.

Course is in ok condition, and its a bit over priced , but its still a good layout and a good day out

Greens are firm- like a links, so thats fine. Fairways a bit soft, not like a links, so short shots stop, full shots to green have to be sharp to stop. Its a good, interesting layout and I enjoyed playing it was fun, just a bit over priced for the conditions.
