Best Time to Play Golf In Chiang Mai

It is worth noting that the climate here is slightly cooler, especially at night and during the cool season of December through to February where temperatures can feel quite nippy. Having said that the day time temperatures can still climb in the 30s, so it is a perfect climate for golfing. March, due to the agricultural practices in the region is probably the worst time to visit as the city is generally covered in a haze created by the burning of agricultural lands obscuring the view and creating havoc for travellers suffering with asthma or similar ailments.

The rainy season is wet, and although the downpours are torrential they generally only last for a hour or so, and the courses have great drainage and play can be resumed almost immediately after the rains. The hot season in Chiang Mai is hot and very humid, which for many is draining and not pleasant.

Again, with most parts of Thailand golf here during the week is the order of the day due to the large numbers of weekend golfers that frequent the courses causing long delays and overcrowding. An early tee time in the cool season can lead to a chilly start that quickly warms up, but as with everything personal preference should dictate when you tee off.

Artitaya Golf & Resort (former Gold canyon) is an hour outside Chiang Mai in a tranquil, rural setting of orchards, canyons and woodland. This is an unusual course that sits in contrast to most courses in Chiang Mai: it's rather open, with not much in the way of water or sand to inconvenience you. Instead, it's challenges lie in its length (at over 7,200 yards it's quite a trek) and the trees that are often unconventionally placed in the middle of fairways or on occasion right in front of the tee box.

Chiang Mai Inthanon Golf Resort is a recently new addition to the Chiang Mai golfing scene overlooked by Thailand’s highest mountain from which it gets its name.  A very enjoyable layout with some difficult holes to keep you on your toes but should suit most golfers. Don’t expect a beautifully manicured golf course because the owners try to maintain the course without the use of harsh chemicals so you might encounter the occasional weed but the abundance of wildlife and the natural landscape more than make up for this.
