Golfers are spoilt for choice, with a huge variety of golf courses around the world. However, some are in more exotic locations than others and Rinjani Golf and Resort is certainly in a special location.
Rinjani Golf and Resort is situated in Lombok, which is an island in the West Nusa Tenggara province of Indonesia. It is part of the of the Lesser Sunda Islands, with the Lombok Strait separating it from Bali to the west and the Alas Strait between it and Sumbawa to the east.
Lombok International Airport opened in 2011 and this is where most visitors will arrive when playing at Rinjani Golf and Resort. There are connections to Jakarta, Singapore, Australia, Malaysia and Russia. Once at the airport, it takes under an hour to reach Rinjani Golf and Resort.
Here you will find an 18-hole, international standard championship golf course. Perhaps the most notable aspect of playing golf at Rinjani Golf and Resort is the stunning surroundings. The golf course is enclosed by native fauna and flora yet the fairways are big enough to ensure a wide open feeling to the course.
However, it is the stunning mountain ranges in the distance which really take your breath away. Teeing of to see your ball flying through the air with the mountains in the backdrop is a fantastic moment every golf will cherish.
The two sets of nine holes at Rinjani Golf and Resort offer a different challenge. The front nine holes are fairly flat with palm and coconut trees lining the fairway. You will be tempted to pull out the driver on all the longer holes and while the trees act as a slight deterrent, its only really the water which will put you off playing attacking golf.
The back nine holes at Rinjani Golf and Resort are surrounded by tropical Indonesian trees and flowers. This has more changes in elevation than the front nine holes but there is nothing major which will cause a problem for most golfers. The bunkers, especially those surrounding the greens are the most problematic aspect of the back nine but Rinjani Golf and Resort is extremely playable for golfers of all abilities.
You must play with a caddie at Rinjani Golf and Resort but the female caddies are well trained and speak English and Japanese. The staff in the clubhouse have also been praised for their efforts to make everyone feel welcome.
In addition to the 18-hole championship golf course, there is a restaurant serving Indonesian and International dishes plus a pro shop, swimming pool and resort which means you can stay overnight if you wish.
Rinjani Golf and Resort is a great introduction to playing golf in Lombok and you could not ask for a betting start to an Indonesian golf holiday.
