The main island in Okinawa, Japan is home to several top golf courses. The subtropical climate makes Okinawa a great place to play golf throughout the year. The winter temperatures remain mild and is the perfect time for a golf holiday in this region of Japan. Located in the central region of Okinawa, on the west coast, you will find Chura Orchard Golf Club.
This golf club open for play in 1970 and is one of the most established golf courses on the island. Situated on the coast you can enjoy lovely views of the East China Sea during a round of golf as the ocean provides the backdrop to several holes.
There is a choice of six tee positions on each of the 18 holes and you can choose to play from the one which best matches your ability. Chura Orchard Golf Club plays to 6138 yards from the back tee but with five other tee positions available the length of the course can be as short as 3636 yards.
Perhaps the first thing to note about this par-72 golf course is the lack of water during the round. Water only comes into play on two of the 18 holes and they are both on the front nine. Water is found on the 3rd on the 5th holes but you must play shots over the water on each of them. There is no getting away from playing over the water on these two holes.
The first is a par-3 hole which requires a short over a lake to a green which is protected by four bunkers. The 2nd hole featuring water is the par-4 6th hole and once again the tee shot must be played over a lake to the fairway on the other side. Playing to just 305 yards from the back tee, long hitters of the ball may be tempted to attack the green on the tee shot. However, there is a fairway bunker close to the green and 3 bunkers surrounding the putting surface.
Moving to the back 9 holes and the 11th is one of the most testing holes at Chura Orchard Golf Club. This par-5 hole plays to 510 yards from the back tee and features a narrow fairway with multiple bunkers. The drive must be precise to land either in front of the bunkers or to carry the ball over the bunkers to leave a shorter second shot.
The 17th and 18th holes both have out of bounds areas, with the 18th especially strict in this regard and accuracy is key to a strong finish.
In addition to the wonderful golf course and views, Chura Orchard Golf Club boasts a club house which is home to locker rooms, a restaurant, a well-stocked pro shop, showers, hot baths and a sauna.
