Muscat golf courses

Muscat is the capital city of Oman and situated on the Gulf of Oman. Surrounded by ocean, mountains and desert, Muscat is the perfect location for a golf holiday in Oman and you will find an excellent selection of golf courses in the region. The hot climate means the temperature remains warm throughout the year and this makes Muscat the perfect destination for a winter golf holiday.

In terms of the Muscat golf courses, we begin with Ras Al Hamra Golf Club. This golf course is located just over 6 kilometres from the city centre and is an 18 hole, par-71 course playing to 6,500 yards from the back tee. Designed by Graham Marsh Golf Design, Ras Al Hamra Golf Club is a desert style golf course and set within arid wadi, surrounded by coastal hillsides and the Gulf of Oman. Having opened for play in 1969, it was originally a sand golf course but has since been developed into a grass course, featuring trees and plants. Interestingly, Ras Al Hamra Golf Club boasts floodlights, meaning you can enjoy a round of golf at night.

Next, we come to Jebel Sifah Golf Course, which is another of the leading Muscat golf courses. This is a 9 hole golf course designed by Harradine. It is the only coastal golf course in their portfolio and the scenery is spectacular. Played as an 18 hole, par-72 course, Jebel Sifah Golf Course has 5 tee locations from which to choose and the course length ranges from 5,686 yards to 7,268 yards.

Some of the other top Muscat golf courses include Al Mouj, which is part of the Wave Resort and has been designed by Greg Norman plus Muscat Hills Golf and Country Club, which was the first 18 hole grassed golf course to be built in Oman.

Al Mouj Golf at The Wave is a challenging golf course providing plenty of variety from hole to hole. However, there is a choice of five tee positions on each hole and this makes the course an ideal test for professionals and amateurs alike. Bunkers, water hazards, and natural dunes combine to great effect on this links style course and some of the bunkers around the 18 holes are huge. In terms of the scenery, the golf course is flanked by both the Indian Ocean and the Hajjar mountain range, providing the perfect backdrop for a stunning round of golf.
