Taekwang Jeongsan Country Club in Ho Chi Minh is the latest resort-style golf course to open in Saigon on a huge island in the Saigon River which can be reached by in 30 minute from the pier in District 1 and it takes you direct to the clubhouse. It’s quite a long course but has several tees to choose from so most golfers will be able to find one to suit their ability. The terrain is quite flat but the designer has positioned plenty of bunkers to protect the course.
The speedboat departs four times per day during the week with the first departure at 0630 and the last at 11.50 the first boat back from the course leaves at 13.10 and the last at 18.30. There are two extra departures at the weekends at 0500 and 0540 and a later return at 19.00. The boat ride is an adventure in itself and you get great view of the city and the port as you make you way along the river.
The first 9 holes on the Sun Course are very picturesque and follow the river bank and he opening hole which is a short par 4 has two large bunkers protecting the green and the river along the right of the green. The next hole is a long par 5 with two large fairway bunkers protecting the very narrow landing area and then another large bunker right of the fairway in an ideal position to swallow a pushed second shot. The 3rd is a very picturesque par 3 with a carry over water to a green with a large bunker along the left and smaller bunker to the right. The 5th is another driveable par 4 but with 5 bunkers lurking around the green you need to be very accurate if you attempt this. The 6th is a great dog-leg par 5 with a huge bunker protecting the tiger line and another at the apex of the dog-leg. More bunkers left and right as you approach the green and two more in front and to the right of the green itself. The 7th is a very long par 3 and you have to hit over water to a narrow green with bunkers left and right. The front nine ends with a dangerous par 4 with water all along the right and a huge bunker protecting he right side of the green.
Short par 4’s are a feature of this course and he 10th is another one - two large fairway bunkers protect the left side of her fairway and another is positioned right of the green. The 12th is a memorable par 5 with cleverly placed bunkers you need to avoid off the tee and another pair either side waiting for your second. If you can avoid them then the approach is pretty simple. The par 4, 13th is a slight dogleg and the main obstacle is the green which is virtually surrounded by bunkers. A challenging tee shot at the par 3, 14th with water all along the left and a large bunker right of the green. The 15th has a huge bunker all the way from tee to green and the a6th has three fairway bunkers virtually blocking your path to the fairway. Lovely finishing par 5 with water all along the left so careful placement of your second is essential as the approach is over water to a narrow undulating green
The course is part of a master plan which will include property development around the course so there is a huge clubhouse with very elaborate facilities to support this future development
