Song Be Golf Resort in Ho Chi Minh offers 27 holes with each of the three courses offering a different and unique challenge with numerous water hazards, mature tropical trees, plants and large uneven greens. Higher handicappers should probably avoid the more difficult Desert Course.

The beautiful lotus ponds and lakes of the aptly named Lotus Course provided an attractive backdrop for this beautiful and challenging course. The uneven lies on the fairways combined with the well placed bunkers and scenic water hazards will test golfers of all skill levels.

The Palm Course as its name suggests has plenty of trees and bushes to block your progress and these combined with narrow fairways are the main obstacles to a good score. Probably the prettiest of the tree courses you can at least enjoy the views as you go round even if you don’t score that well.

As you begin the Desert Course you could be fooled into thinking you are in Arizona and not Vietnam, this unusual layout was voted the most unique golf course design in 2011. Certainly the most difficult of the three courses with, as you would expect, plenty of sand in the shape of cleverly placed bunkers and waste areas. To play it well requires a high degree of accuracy and excellent course management.

An excellent clubhouse with all the usual facilities offering scenic views over the course.

Our last course in Saigon was Song Be, the worst course we played in Saigon. The green was very slow (8.2), and some of the fairways did not have grass as some weed infestation overtook the grass that was planted. The worst of it all, the pace of play was just horrible. We had a 9:30 a.m. tee time, and our second nine was scheduled for 1:48 p.m., as the starter told us before we teed off. Even with the slow play of two hours and thirty minutes, it would still only be noon. To make a long story short, we complained to the starter, and they managed to squeeze us in somewhere after we finished the first nine. I would not return to Song Be and would not recommend that visitors play the course. For the same amount of money, try Long Thanh, and you will enjoy it more.

Caddies were great, carts were cool to drive around in.

Weather was really hot, but not much you can do about that, so take ice water if you can. Course was in ok condition, and the clubhouse was really clean and modern. Despite not speaking a word of Vietnamese, all the staff looked after us and got us checked in and checked out. Really enjoyed the day. First time we've used golfsavers, really good experience, will definitely use again

Poor golf experience

When we made reservations with travel agent we were told what charged to expect, we ask dress code. When we arrived after our driver left we mere made to purchase clothes and had about 1,000,000 dong added to the price we were told the cost would be. They were very argumentative at the course. Would not recommend

"A pretty good course"

This course was in very good condition – although it’s quite flat it’s still an interesting layout. Caddie was good but with quite limited English communicating was a challenge. Well worth playing but pick your time as it can get very hot at times.
