Designed by Greg Norman, Riverside Golf Course in Jakarta is another example of Norman´s ability to use the existing landscape to create golfing masterpieces that will stand the test of time. Opened in October 1994, the course was Normans first in Indonesia and it is easy to see why it is such a favourite with local and visiting golfers alike.
Located in Cikeas, is superb, the course enjoys rolling fairways which follow the natural contours of the land, the Cikeas River and the lush forest, which all blend effortlessly together to create a gem of a golf course.
The facilities and amenities are of the highest standard. The clubhouse, comprised of the well stoked pro shop, locker rooms and the open-air restaurant, provides everything the discerning golfer requires, couple this with one of the greatest practice facilities in the region and you have the recipe for a world class resort.
The driving range was designed to mimic “on course” practice. The extensive short game area leaves the golfer with no excuse not to try and improve their chipping, pitching and bunker shots. Visiting golfers must make the time to enjoy the wonderful facilities that the course has to offer, before or after their round.
The caddy service is well worth taking advantage of, as their local knowledge will be precious to those golfers that are playing the golf course for the first time.
Norman has created a golf course that tempts the golfer into taking shots on that normally they wouldn´t consider and it is his clever use of the natural landscape that makes this course special.
Nearly all of the par 4´s and 5´s a view of the green from the tee is missing, making the golfer meticulously plot their way around this golf course, which rewards those who find the fairways and then attack the greens.
The holes of note must be the par 3´s, three of which require carries over the Cikeas River, of the par 3s the standout hole is most definitely the fourteenth. The hole calls for a mid iron to be hit cleanly across the immense gorge to a green that is perched upon a jungle clifftop. A sensational stunning view awaits the golfer.
The 5th, a par four, played down the hill to an island green is another stand out hole and the par five 7th, zigzagging its way through the forest offers the golfer a fantastic chance of making birdie.
The views from every spot on the golf course are superb and you become one with the abundant nature that surrounds the golf course. It is truly a magical location and Norman has created a golf course that blends harmoniously into the magic of the surroundings.
