Tako County Club was established in 1999 and is an 18 hole, par-72 golf course. As the name of the course suggests, Tako Country Club is located in Tako, which is a town situated in Chiba Prefecture.
This region of Japan is known for rural pastures and there are many beautiful rice paddies which make for a lovely landscape. Despite being in the countryside, Tako Country Club is very easy to reach, especially for those arriving into Narita Airport.
Within 30 minutes of landing at the airport, you can be whisked to the golf course and sink your first putt within the hour. If you decide to base yourself in Tokyo, you can make a trip to Tako Country Club and it takes little more than 90 minutes.
A parkland course, playing to a total of 6,785 yards from the back tees, Tako Country Club was designed by Kumagai Gumi.
Water features heavily on this golf course and while the distance, even from the back tee, will not cause much trouble to most players, the hazards need to be carefully managed. Water features on 10 of the 18 holes and really comes into play on the final three holes of the course.
The par-4, 16th hole has water protecting the green to the front left and the par-3, 17th hole has water along the left side of the hole, although this should be easy enough to avoid. The 18th hole is the longest on the course, playing to 563 yards from the back tee and there are two ponds to look our for on the right side of the hole.
One of which protects the front right of the green and if the flag is positioned on the right side of the green, you will be required to play your final approach shot over water if you want to land close to the hole.
There are also over 120 bunkers at Tako Country Club, so you must be fully aware of where they are positioned if you want to avoid regular visits to the sand. Dog-legs make up much of the front nine holes and having good control of the ball off the tee is beneficial when negotiating your way around these holes.
Tako Country Club is a flat golf course and you will not find a great deal of elevation around the 18 holes but there is moderate undulation throughout.
In addition to the excellent 18 hole golf course at Tako Country Club you will find a restaurant with terrace, driving range, putting green and chipping area. The menu at the restaurant uses the freshest local ingredients and is a great place to dine following a round.
Tako Country Club is a great addition to a Japanese golf holiday and the perfect way to start for those arriving at Narita Airport.
