Chee Chan Golf Resort is one of the latest golf developments in Pattaya, Thailand. Thanks to great links between Bangkok and Pattaya, it is easy to reach Chee Chan from Bangkok Airport and within a few hours, you will be at the resort.
Chee Chan opened for play in 2018 and is an 18-hole golf course designed by David Dale from Golf Plan. For those who believe they have heard of Chee Chan before, it may be due the carving of the Khao Chee Chan Buddha in the mountain face and this golf course sits below that giant image.
It’s a dramatic setting for a golf course and not only are there great views of the Buddha, there are also tremendous views of Pattaya and Jomtien as you play your way around the golf course. Chee Chan has several tees to choose from on each hole and you can make the course as difficult as you like in terms of length.
From 6,527 yards to 7,345 yards, you will find a distance challenge to suit players of all abilities at Chee Chan.
In contrast to many of the other golf courses in Pattaya, Chee Chan is relatively flat but with plenty of undulating, rolling fairways and contoured greens. It resembles a links course more than any other style of golf course and this makes it a very good alternative to some of the others in this region of Thailand.
The designer of Chee Chan golf course, David Dale, was keen to produce a course which stands above the others in Pattaya due to the high quality and conditioning of the playing surface. “We’ve built the fairways to be void of the conventional rough cut”, says Dale, before continuing, “Firm and fast is the aim, with a lot of collection areas around the greens and the landing zones too”.
This certainly suggests a links-style golf course and one which will tempt players to pull their longest club out of the bag on the tee. Indeed, many of the par-4 holes are long and uphill but with firm and fast ground, you can rely on a good roll if you manage to find the middle of the fairway.
It is difficult to select a standout hole from such a great selection but the par-4 4th hole and par-3 17th hole are perhaps two of the most memorable. Both feature water and the large, double tiered green on the 4th hole is protected by water to the left while the 17th requires a tee shot over water, with a large bunker to the back of the green.
The facilities at Chee Chan include locker rooms, the View Restaurant serving Thai, European and Chinese food, a chipping green, driving range, putting green and pro shop.
Chee Chan is going to quickly rise up the ranks to become a must-play golf course in Pattaya. With such great conditioning, providing a links-style challenge, in a special environment, Chee Chan has the makings of being a top Pattaya golf course.
