Wangjuntr Golf and Nature Park

While this course may seem to lack a vowel or two, it certainly does not want for greens, with every hole on both stunningly beautiful courses having two of them. Set in the seaside province of Rayong and making full use of the original landscape on which it was built, Wangjuntr Golf & Nature Park offers championship golf in a beautiful natural wilderness. The Valley course unusually features five par-5s and 5-par 3s, and it is the short holes that provide most of the memorable moments (although whether the longest of the par-3s, at 245 yards, is 'short' is debatable!). At the 15th ,if you can avoid the greenside pond, you must navigate a heavily sloped green that makes putting a nightmare; at the 17th, you tee off from a cliff top down towards one of the two heavily guarded greens. The brilliant par-5 11th is one of the longest in Thailand at 694 yards, and another pair of par-5s end the round. Thankfully they buck the trend by being on the short side, offering up much needed chances for birdie.

The more popular (and more challenging) Highland course features some wonderful views and with so many memorable features it is easy to imagine the five Thai architects that designed it were all on a mission to outdo each other. At over 7600 yards it is one of the longest courses in Thailand, but the difficulty is softened from the front tees from where some good scores are possible. The standout hole here is the par-4 13th, known as the 'stairway to heaven' thanks to a fairway that elevates in gradual steps to the top of a hill where you will find a thankfully large green surrounded by trees.
