Located to the south of Jakarta, Pondok Indah Golf Course is ideally located in the region, 5 minutes from the local business district and around 45 minutes from the Jakarta International Airport.
Opened in 1976 Pondok Indah provides the golfer with a perfect balance between the challenge of the game and the beauty of the natural surroundings. It is a golf course that is special, with the designer seemingly stumbling across the perfect landscape to create a beautiful golf course that is located in the heart of a bustling city.
The course was built with the dream of hosting major tournaments and with that in mind, one of the most famous names in course design was drafted in. Robert Trent Jones Jr has created a masterpiece that blends the challenge of tournament golf with the required teeing grounds and hole designs that can also be enjoyed by all golfers.
Pondok Indah clubhouse is a blend of modern and traditional architecture and is a perfect partner to the golf course. A restaurant, changing rooms and pro shop offer the golfer all they need in preparation for their game and the chance to unwind after.
Pondok Indah offer a superb caddy service and their caddies could be the difference between a good score and a poor one. Extremely knowledgeable about the course and intensely attentive to your needs, employing one of the caddies would be highly recommended. A well-equipped practice facility can be enjoyed by those wishing to warm up before their round or to practice and iron out those niggles.
Onto the course, which from the back tees has to be one of the toughest challenges in Indonesia, and it was no wonder that it hosted the World Cup in 1983.
Beautifully lush, green rolling fairways await the golfer and the aesthetics are breath-taking, planted borders and architectural trees compliment the strategically placed bunkers and water hazards and create a sense of class.
From the first tee you get a sense of things to come, with a tee shot that calls for accuracy to set up for a difficult approach into this green protected by water right and sand left.
The par 3 twelfth is stunning, truly amazing. The green sits proudly in the middle of the lake and is further protected by bunkers on all sides. Entry to the green is via a small bridge and if you are lucky enough to have found the green from the tee you should walk away with a pleasing par.
You have to wait until the final hole for the toughest challenge on the course. The hole is reachable in two, provided you are brave enough and have found the fairway from the tee. A gentle dog leg to the left requires the drive to be hit down the right side of this fairway avoiding the bunker. For longer hitters the second shot can reach the elevated green, but miss it at your peril. Water left is intimidating considering the right to left dogleg, a bunker left and long provide further danger.
A cracking golf course with great facilities, Pondok Indah is a must try if you are ever in the area.
