The Eagle Milford Golf Club in Hua Hin enjoys a fabulous location in the hills not far from the centre of Hua Hin with great views over the ocean. The course was originally designed by renowned golf courses architect, Robert McFarlane. Unfortunately the club has suffered from a lack of investment and the condition of the courses is not up to the standard of other golf courses in Hua Hin. It’s a pity as the location and layout are wonderful and this has the potential of being one of the better golf courses in Thailand. The course is currently being rrented by a Korean operator and the courses is not being maintained corectly and the whole operation is very run down.
Parts of the course have a definite links feeling due to the proximity of the ocean and because of the nature of the land there are large elevation changes and plenty or uneven lies.
The courses is divided into two halves offering different challenges and terrain. One side of the courses meanders through rolling hills and you are surrounded by the mountains and the other part traverses the top of the hills with wonderful views over the ocean.
The pick of the holes is the 15th which is a par 4 and a very which offers several options and the tee shot in particular is a challenge with water on the left and the mountainside on the right. Most players will play short of the water and lay up from there but the bog hitters might try to go for the green but this requires mighty blow.
This is not an easy courses and many experienced locals have trouble matching their handicap. The greens, although not in perfect condition, are usually pretty fast and you need to get the right side of the pin as some of the downhill puts are impossible.
The clubhouse is acceptable with the usual facilities and the restaurant offers nice views over the course.
