Royal Hua Hin Golf Course

Holes 18 | Par 72 | Length 6077 m / 6646 y | Type Parkland | Architect O.A.Robins

The Royal Hua Hin has a distinguished history dating back to the early half of the 20th century making it the oldest golf course in Thailand. It’s not in great condition but still very playable.

The course wanders between the rocky outcrops and has been designed to mould with the natural terrain and is reminiscent of many of the older British courses.

Due to its long history, the course is lined with fully mature trees unlike many of the more recently built course which gives the course great character.  The fairways are usually pretty hard and often interspersed with weeds and bald patches but this will give you plenty of run on the ball.  The greens are very slow but true and at times tough to read.  There are some great views from some of the more elevated tee boxes and a Thai Temple provides the backdrop to the par-3 14th.

As you approach the club you will pass by the very ornate railways station which was often used by the Royal family as they visited their summer palaces in Hua Hin.

Probably the best hole is the last on the front nine which is a par 4 which takes you downhill towards the clubhouse. You have to drive across a waste area and at the same time avoid two large bushes which block your way.  If you can navigate these hazards you are faced with a relatively simple approach to the green.

If you can ignore the wear and tear then it’s very playable and certainly worth a round to soak up some of the history of this grand old lady.

Nice to play on 100 year old golfcourse in Hua Hin .

The golf course needs renovation. The driving range seems very old and small for a such busy golfcourse .I had reservations by Golfsavers and to pay the caddies (to the club) and the golfbag in cash because they didn’t accept a creditcard The procedure—with Golfsavers!—took much time . The fairways and greens and were good ,but not exceptional. The caddies were nice .

playing golf in Hua Hin on a 100 years old golfcourse

The condition of the golfcourse was fair ( sometimes to much spots without grass on the fairway) , the greens seemed better . The pace was also fair , sometimes we had to wait . We had however a nice golfday , The driving range was'nt modern and to small for the amount people , since years not changed . At the reception they refused creditcard payment for the golfbags which we rented , as they did with the compulsatory contribution for the caddies . Fortunately they had an ATM

Most enjoyable. Mature trees, nice layout, I would recommend it.

The course was a little dry and the ball ran however it helped me. The greens were being top dressed but ok to putt. Nice layout, scenic. Mature trees gave a traditional golf course feel. The caddies were knowledgeable, friendly and helpful. Good value for the money. First time golfing in Hau Hin. I will book another T time at this course. The early bird and twilight rates are great until the end of February.
