The Lakeside Course at King’ Island Golf Club in Hanoi is part of a 36-hole golfing complex course in the around one hour from downtown Hanoi. As its name suggest this course uses the numerous lakes and ponds for most of its protection although the elevation changes and mature trees add to the degree of difficulty. This is one of the best golf clubs in Hanoi and is very popular with Hanoi Golfers and visitors alike.
If you find water hazards distracting then this course is best avoided as water is a factor on all but a handful of holes so if you don’t hit it straight take plenty of balls!
The front nine starts with a shortish dog-leg par-4 over water of course which is reachable if you hit it a long way. Some respite from the ever-present water on the 2nd before you face the very picturesque par-3, 3rd which is pretty much surrounded by water and bunkers. The
next two holes have water all the way down one side before you reach the short uphill par-4, 6th. The 8this another pretty par-3 with another carry over water and the 9th is a brute of a par-4 to finish with a huge bunker and water on the right and another hazard in front of the green so you need to carry your approach all the way to the green.
A relatively benign par-5 to start the back nine with a nice generous landing area. Nothing too daunting until you reach the 13th an uphill par-5 that’s dog-legs to the left with a pond lying in wait and three fairway bunkers guarding he right side. The 14th is a downhill par-3 and if you miss the green you will end up in one of the large bunkers protecting each side. Hole 15 is a beautiful par-4 and the 16th is the signature par-3 that plays more than 200 yards from the back tees to an island green. A pretty finishing hole with water all down one side and bunkers on the other.
