Tam Dao Golf Resort in Hanoi is a top-class and challenging IMG-designed golf course which meanders through the beautiful countryside of the National Park about 90 minutes from Hanoi. The use of modern grasses and design techniques ensure all-year-round playability. Due to its location you will find plenty of elevation changes as the course winds its way around the foothills and the large lake which dominates the landscape. The generous fairways and large undulating greens make good scoring possible as long as you can avoid the many bunkers and water hazards.
The course stars with a great uphill par-5 with a green protected by an awkwardly placed tree and wandering creek in front of the green. Wonderful views down the course from behind this green. The most difficult hole on the course awaits at the par-4, 5th which is an acute dog-leg with the large lake in play most of the way to the green. Make a hole-in-one at the par-3 8th and you could walk off with a TV but at over 200 yards from the blue tees that is a tall order.
After a reasonably simple start the back nine gets serious as you approach the very difficult uphill par-3 12th with a narrow green protected by bunkers and run-off areas. The 13th offer great views with a large fairway bunker and a stream crossing the fairway to catch out the long hitters and the 14th, although very picturesque has a green protected by numerous bunkers on one side and water on the other. The 18th is a great finishing hole: long, uphill all the way and bunkers both sides – if you can par this then you are playing well.
