Templer Park Golf Course is a real escape from the city set in the middle of the jungle a short distance outside Kuala Lumpur. A very interesting layout and usually in excellent condition with two very distinct nines. Its elevated position make the air a bit cooler.
Templer Park Country Club is a very pretty course dominated by the huge limestone rock which is visible from many of the holes. The front nine is relatively flat and offers more scoring opportunities and the much hillier back nine is much more challenging.
This variety is illustrated when you compare the par-4 3rd that is as flat as a pancake and the difficult par-5 15th, which slopes sharply from tee to green. The tricky par-3 8th requires a difficult carry over water, and the breath-taking par-4 12th offers a risky drive across the jungle to a thin strip of fairway. You will certainly remember to the signature 18th. You will probably spend some time weighing up the risk of trying to carry more than 200 yards across water to the safety of the fairway and the potential reward of a birdie finish – end up in the water and it’s a certain bogey or worse.
In summary Templer Park Country Club is an excellent course packed full of interesting challenges, not least the numerous bunkers and the thick rough which can cost you many shots if you venture offline. Even if you manage to reach the massive greens in regulation you can often be faced with long putts across the fast and undulating putting surface. Whatever your score we can guarantee a great day out at this beautiful course.
