Tropicana Golf & Country Resort in Kuala Lumpur is a top class 27-hole golf course with some of the best fairways to be found anywhere. We recommend that you play the two East Courses, which make up the championship course rather than the easier West Course.
Originally built in 1993 on the site of an old rubber plantation Tropicana Golf & Country Resort in Kuala Lumpur set out with the aim of building a courses which would be enjoyed by professional as well as amateur golfers and quickly establishing themselves to be one of the best golf clubs in Malaysia. When people discuss this course they normally refer to the championship East Course which is beautifully laid out and landscaped with exotic tress and colourful plants.
There are numerous bunkers to keep you vigilant, and plenty of elevation changes to maintain your interest. The fairways are quite narrow, the trees that border them are an ever-present problem, but the rewards for staying on the immaculate fairways are great, as your ball will sit up beautifully.
The front nine on the East course opens with a very beautiful and challenging par-4 framed by a series of waterfalls. Intimidating tee shot but if you can find the fairway then you are well set for your approach. The third is a medium length par-3 with water running down the left and two large bunkers in front of the left side of the green
Not so much water on the back nine although the eleventh requires a carry over the lake onto a narrow landing area protected by a deep fairway bunker on the inside of the dogleg. The green is heavily contoured and surrounded by bunkers. The 15th looks to be a straightforward par 4 but looks can be deceptive and this is rated the most difficult mainly because of the heavy bunkering around the green.
On the supposedly easier West Course the pick of the holes are the 13th & 14th. The 13th is a driveable par 4 but probably better to lay up short of the water which gives a pretty easy approach. The 14th is a very pretty hole with a lake along the left side and also cutting across the fairway – better to play up short but bunkers lie in wait if you get off line. Another pond protects the right side of he green
Overall Tropicana Golf & Country Resort is a superb course. It's in perfect condition, especially the fairways and it proves to be an irresistible challenge that will leave you wanting to come back for more.
