Lakewood Country Club in Bangkok is one of the closest golf courses to downtown Bangkok.   The club is built on large expanse of open land and although the area is very flat the designer has managed to makes things interesting with extensive landscaping and earth moving and the result is very attractive.  It’s a 27-hole layout and each of the nines has a very distinctive character and depending on which combination you play it’s a very different experience.

On the Lake nine at Lakewood Country Club there are a number of interesting holes.  The 2nd is a short par 4 and long drivers can have a go for the green but there is a very large bunker running just in front of the green.  For lesser mortals 3 fairway bunkers guarding the right side of the fairway are to be avoided.  The third is a very long par 3 and measures over 200 yards from the blue tees with a carry over water to a green bordered by water on one side and a large bunker on the other.  The 4th is another quite short par 4 which is just in range but anything pulled slightly will end up in the water which stretched from tee to green – a huge bunker also lines the water on the left.  The 5th is a zigzag shaped par 5 with a bunker protecting the direct line to the fairway which is well in range.  This is followed by a dangerous second with five bunkers either side of the fairway and two more to the right of the green.  The 9th is a very difficult par 4 seven bunkers in play off the tee and a larger water hazard all along the left.  A well-positioned pot bunker lies in wait for a miss-hit second and 3 bunkers guard the green.

After an easy start the Wood Course tightens up on the par 5, second with a narrow landing area protected by two bunkers either side of the fairway and a water hazard in range to the left.  You need to keep on the fairway for your second as the green is well protected by bunkers either side. The 4th is a picturesque par 3 with water all along the right, two large bunkers along the left and another guarding the direct line to the pin.  The 5th is Ok if you can avoid the three large fairway bunkers and keep out of the lake along the left.  The tee shot on the 6th is quite intimidating as you drive across the lake and a large beach bunker to a narrow fairway – another pond on the left will come into play for the big hitters.  Four bunkers either side of the fairway and running close to the green make the approach difficult and water running around the back of the green makes the correct club selection essential.  The 7th is a classic risk and reward hole with a large stream slitting the fairway – you have to both carry this hazard and try to avoid the fairway bunkers resulting in a simple approach or keep left of the hazard and face a long iron into the green. Very tough 9th with water along the left and a narrow fairway protected by several bunkers.

Water is a factor on every hole of the Rock Course at Lakewood Country Club.  The 2nd is a great par 5 with a narrow fairway and five bunkers surrounding the green.  The third is a tasty par 4 with water all along the left and then cutting into the fairway in front of the green.  The fifth is a long par 3 with water on the right and a huge bunker to the right of the narrow green but there is generous run off area to the left of the green.  The seventh is a dog-leg right with a stream running across the fairway about 150 yards from the green and three bunkers circling the putting surface.  Lovely finishing hole as you drive to a very narrow landing area with a large fairway bunker on the left and water on the right with a daunting approach to a green virtually surrounded by water.

General excellent caddies which will add to the positive experience of this Bangkok golf course and being close to the international airport this is an ideal place for your first or last golf round in Bangkok.

Very friendly staff and good caddies. Tee boxes need some improvement, but the course and the greens are in good shape. Definitely worthwhile playing there.

A very good experience at Lakewood Golf Resort.

Some of the tee boxes are pretty bare but they don’t affect the game much. Otherwise, the golf course is in pretty good shape.

Great layout! There seems to be a lot of tournament play, which may make for slower rounds! Caddies were knowledgeable! I would play it again!

"Surprisingly good course"

I was not familiar with this course and it exceeded my expectations and was slightly cheaper than some of the other courses in the area. Excellent caddie and an enjoyable round.
