Rachakram Golf Club in Bangkok is one for the long hitters looking for great value. A bit further out than some of the other golf courses in Bangkok but well worth the effort. Lots of water here which comes into play on all but 3 or 4 of the holes. Night golf also on offer.
The lay up area in front of most of the greens mean you can run your ball up to the putting surface, making it an ideal course for those who are fed up most of the other golf courses in the area which are set up for target golf design. The course has quite an open feeling to it because many of the trees are not fully matured and as a result it is currently fairly forgiving of wild shots. As the course matures this will change, but for the moment if you can master the lightning fast greens and avoid the manicured bunkers and occasionally disguised water hazards you should be able to shoot a low score, particularly if you hit it a long way. There is only one par-3 where you won’t be reaching for a wood or even a rescue club, and the par 5s are all fairly daunting, especially when playing into the wind where getting there in two is a task of Dustin Johnson-sized proportions.
Some of the more interesting holes include the second which is a long part 4 with a longish carry over water to the fairway and then an approach to a green surrounded on three sides by water hazards and several large bunkers. The seventh is a driveable par 4 but any mishit will find the water to the left of the fairway. The ninth hole is a monster par 5 with water coming in play off the tee and again for your second shot.
On the tenth you have to cross the water twice to reach the green which is surrounded by water on two sides. More of the same on the 1gth but as well as negotiating the water this hole is a sharp dogleg as well. The 18th is a great finishing hole with an approach to yet another green surrounded by water and bunkers.
Being further out of town than most courses from Bangkok, it has the advantage of being a lot less busy so take advantage of the reasonably priced green fees and get in a fast and very enjoyable round (even at night, an option here) at Rachakram Golf Club.
Tee Times at Rachakram Golf Club
Not too difficult to get tee times at Rachakram Golf Club except at the weekends and on public holidays and Golfsavers have some very good green fees on offer especially if you play after 12 noon.
