The Royal Golf and Country Club in Bangkok is the closest golf course to Suvanabhumi International airport making it an ideal choice for your final round. One of the most scenic golf courses in Bangkok which makes the most of the natural terrain as it wanders through the many water features, mature trees and colourful plants.
With water all around accuracy off the tee is a must and if you do find the middle of the fairway then you will not often find a level lie as they are full of bumps and hollows which makes your approach to the tiered greens a challenge. The par 3’s are particularly memorable because they are all pretty long and two of them are more than 200 yards from the back tee and the higher handicappers will need a driver to reach the 17th!
A challenging start to your round with a tough par 4 with narrow entrance to the green between two bunkers. The 2nd is rated the second easiest on the course providing you can avoid the water along the left and pick the right club for your approach as the green is very well bunkered. To reach the green on the par 3 third you need to hit across the water hazard and avoid the beach bunker to get on the putting surface. The 5th hole is a very long par 5 rated the most difficult on the course – dead straight but with water and bunkers along the left and a huge bunker protecting the green. The 7th is another long par 3 with a water carry and a circle of bunkers protecting he right side of the green. The 8th is a another very difficult par 5 with water all along the left and a large bunker protecting the right side of the fairway – very difficult approach with water in front of the green bordered by a large beach bunker. Difficult finish to the front nine with that water all along he left with a green surrounded by bunkers and water encroaching on the left.
The back nine opens with four pretty straightforward holes and then it’s on to the 14th which is one of the more challenging par 4’s and is tough to reach in regulation and the next hole which is a long par 5 with water running the entire length of the narrow fairway. Hole 16 is also not easy but remembered by most for its bunker in the shape of Mickey Mouse. We mentioned the 17th above – huge carry over water and bunkers all around the green! A difficult par 4 to finish with water and bunkers along the right and lots of bunkers around the green.
The maintenance is usually excellent and the greens true and fast and the large clubhouse offers all of the facilities you expect of this excellent course.
