Subhapruek Golf Club

Holes 18 | Par 72 | Length 6252 m / 6837 y | Type Parkland | Architect Pete Dye

Subhapruek Golf Club is situated perfectly between Bangkok city centre and Suvarnabhumi Airport.  This makes it the perfect golf course to play upon arrival in Bangkok or as a last minute round before leaving the country.

Having said that, Subhapruek should be added to any Bangkok or Thailand golf itinerary regardless of your entry and departure point.  For those who have played golf in Asia or travelled to other regions of the world, the name Pete Dye is one you will know well.

Pete Dye is an American golf course designer who has put his name to many golf courses around the world, including his homeland of the United States and Asia.

Located just 50 minutes away from the centre of Bangkok, Subhapruek is an 18-hole golf course playing to 6,837 yards from the back tee.  The course was originally opened in 1993 as Bangna Country Club but has since changes its name to Subhapruek.

This golf course is mostly flat but Dye has still managed to create some testing and interesting holes.  The landing areas are often generous and you will be tempted to pull out the driver on many of them.  While this can be great fun, if you have come with the intention of scoring low, you will want to pay attention to the position of your ball after each shot.

There are significant water hazards positioned around the 18 holes in addition to shaped bunkers, groups of trees and palm-lined fairways.  So, although you will be itching to pull out the driver every time on the par-4 and par-5 holes, you may wish to consider a short, more accurate club with the water and bunkers in mind.

Indeed, good positioning is key to a low score at Subhapruek and if you can leave yourself in prime position for your approach shots to the green, you will enjoy a successful round of golf.  If you tend to hook or slice the ball with the driver, you will find plenty of trouble but if you can play a round of controlled golf off the tee, you can achieve a very good score playing at Subhapruek.

The finishing holes on each set of nine are regarded as being the best holes on the course by those who play regularly.  The 8th hole features a long dogleg around a lake while the 9th hole has water running the full length of the right side of the hole.  The 18th hole will remind you of the 18th at TPC Sawgrass and is a fitting end to a great round of golf.

In addition to the picture-perfect golf course, Subhapruek Golf Club is home to a driving range with floating island targets and a large clubhouse with a restaurant serving Thai and other Asian food.

Subhapruek is a good addition to any Bangkok or Thailand golf itinerary.  The course is well-presented and provides a good strategic test of golf.  Plus there is a nice little addition at the end in the form of a short par-3 19th hole.

Subhapruek Golf Club

Very challenging Pete Dye layout

Reviewed by ; on
This is a very nice tree-lined parkland course with water coming into play alongside many of the tight fairways, and some distinctive bunkers offering additional protection. The course was in pretty good condition; they just needed more attention to detail. The greens were quite firm, which made it difficult to stop the ball and the breaks were quite subtle. Nice clubhouse, good restaurant, comfortable restaurant & locker room, reasonable green fee for a course designed by a legend,

Excellent course, always well maintained

This course is a delight - great layout, a nice variety of holes, well maintained fairways and greens and good, knowledgeable caddies. Sports day makes this a must on Tuesdays. Very popular with Japanese and Korean golfers.
