Windsor Park and Golf Club in Bangkok is a 36-hole layout consisting of four different nines situated to the East of Bangkok about 90 minutes from the centre of the city. A very mature golf course with lots of full-grown trees and colourful native plants and everything else you expect from a classic parkland course with tree-lined fairways, water hazards and plenty of bunkers.
The original three nine-hole layouts (Lagoon, Palm and Garden) are quite similar but the more recently added Lakeside nine is quite different and much more challenging. The courses is not that long but there are plenty of water hazards to keep you on your toes so it’s important you don’t stray too far off line. Greens are reasonably true but quite slow compared to some of the other golf courses in Bangkok.
The combination of the Lagoon course and the Palm course is nearly 7,000 yards and wanders through classic Thai countryside with palm-fringed fairways interspersed with attractive water hazards. And pretty well-protected greens. The classic view from the tee is usually a generous fairway with bunkers protecting one side and a water hazard lying in wait on the other.
I addition to the greenside bunkers many of the holes involve water carries to reach the putting surface and you will encounter the occasional elevation change, uneven lie and some light rough. On many of the holes a real wild shot will end up on an adjacent fairway allowing you to get back into play without penalty. One memorable hole is the third on the Palm course which has numerous bunker all the way from tee to green.
As mentioned above, the Lakeside nine is much tougher and hugs the edge of a large man-made lake making accurate shot-making essential and the higher handicappers had better pack plenty of balls. The greens are also more challenging and are full of subtle bumps and hollows which most golfers find quite a test. Probably better for high handicappers to avoid this course.
The courses is in pretty good condition although the original clubhouse is showing its age but the service it up to standard and serves and excellent array of Western and Thai food. Caddies are usually pretty good although we recommend one of the more experienced ones to guide you round.
